Botanical terminology: Fagus sylvatica
Origin: America
Physical and Mechanical Properties
Beech is characterized as heavy and hard wood with quite high resistance to mechanical stress.
Working properties
Beech requires pre-drilling for nailing and is good in welding. It is painted well with excellent finishing and dries quickly enough but has a strong tendency to deform. Artificial drying requires caution.
It is used for furniture, doors, flooring, indoor carpentry, panels and brush handles. It is particularly suitable for food containers as there is no odor or taste.
